Information
After spending a weekday afternoon with OFM while driving through the Free State, the station felt less like generic background radio and more like part of the region’s daily routine. From Bloemfontein, OFM reaches the Free State, Northern Cape, southern Gauteng and parts of the North West. Its own 2026 figures say BrandMapp 2025 counted 306,000 listeners, while BRC 2024 mapped 214,000; 78% of the audience is aged 25–64, and 81% sits above SEM-7.
OFM also sounds exactly like the region it serves. Its licence conditions allow Afrikaans and English, and the station has built a strategy around that bilingual mix. In practice, the on-air feel is close to adult contemporary: familiar pop, soft rock, and talk that stays useful rather than noisy.
The weekday line-up gives the brand most of its shape. The Good Morning Breakfast is fronted by Shandor Potgieter, whose energy and Money for Nothing Quiz have made him one of the station’s best-known voices; OFM also highlights his background as the founder of the band Oros in ’n lang glas. The Agri Hour runs weekdays from 5 to 6 a.m. and is treated as a real tool for the region’s farming community, not just a filler segment. Later in the day, Mid-Morning Magic with Yolanda Maartens keeps things lighter, while The Joyride with Nico, Nikki and JayBee brings the commute home to life.
What gives OFM extra weight is that it still treats local information as something worth broadcasting properly. Its Business Hour, hosted by Olebogeng Motse, focuses on Central South Africa’s business news, and Motse won a national Vodacom Journalist of the Year award for a financial feature. After a few hours of listening, the station’s rhythm became clear: callers were not rushed, farming updates felt practical, and the talk sounded like it belonged to people who actually live there.
