Information
Sky FM is a commercial radio station based in Monze, Zambia. Since its launch in September 2001, Sky FM has become one of the best-known regional broadcasters in Southern Province. Operating under the slogan "The People's Radio," the station has built its identity around local journalism, public discussion and strong ties with the communities it serves. While its primary language is English, the station also reaches local audiences through Tonga-language programming. Its broadcast format combines News and Talk with regular public-interest content.
Over the years, Sky FM has established itself as more than a source of daily news. Much of its programming focuses on issues affecting Southern Zambia, including agriculture, education, healthcare, local business and community development. Phone-in discussions give residents an opportunity to question local leaders, share opinions and take part in conversations about everyday challenges. That interaction has become one of the station's defining characteristics.
Compared with larger national broadcasters, Sky FM stays much closer to regional life. Stories from Monze and surrounding districts are often given priority over national headlines, making the station especially relevant for listeners who want information that directly affects their communities. This local focus has helped Sky FM maintain a recognizable identity for more than two decades.
After listening to the live stream for several hours, the station never felt rushed. Conversations were allowed to develop naturally, and callers had enough time to explain their views without constantly being interrupted. The strongest impression was that Sky FM values discussion over sensation. Rather than trying to sound bigger than it is, the station remains focused on the people and communities that have supported it since it first went on air.
