Information
Capricorn FM doesn't try to sound like a Johannesburg radio station, and that's probably its biggest strength. Almost every programme comes back to Limpopo. Presenters talk about local businesses, roads, schools and community events without trying to turn every story into a national headline. That local identity has been at the heart of Capricorn FM since it launched in 2007 as Limpopo's first commercial radio station.
The station follows an Urban format with a 70% music and 30% talk balance, broadcasting in English, Tsonga, Venda and Sepedi. Switching between languages feels natural because that's how many people communicate across the province. Instead of chasing trends from bigger cities, Capricorn FM reflects everyday life in Limpopo.
One of the station's best-known programmes is Capricorn Breakfast, hosted by Jones Netshipise and Mpho Molefe. Alongside news and entertainment, Elevator Pitch gives local entrepreneurs a chance to present their businesses, while Breakfast Masterclass brings experts into the studio to discuss practical topics such as relationships, online safety and family life. Later, Hlekani Shikwambana keeps the daytime audience engaged with lifestyle features, culture and contemporary urban music.
The station's biggest personality is DJ Complexion, host of Capricorn Drive. He has earned a strong reputation by balancing music with meaningful conversation. One moment the show focuses on new Amapiano releases, the next it shifts to local issues or listener stories in Too Hot To Handle. On weekends, King Bash brings a younger audience to Capricorn Adventure, introducing new Hip-Hop and Amapiano releases while giving airtime to emerging artists from Limpopo.
After listening for several hours, what stood out wasn't the playlist but the conversations. During Capricorn Drive, callers were given time to explain their views instead of being rushed between songs. The presenters sounded familiar with the places and people they discussed, making the station feel genuinely connected to its audience. That local connection is what makes Capricorn FM different from many larger commercial broadcasters.
