YFM 99.2 is a commercial regional radio station broadcasting from Rosebank, Johannesburg on 99.2 MHz. eMedia Investments owns the station, which has been on air since 1997. The format is strictly Urban Contemporary. It targets the 15 to 35 age group. You can also listen nationally on DStv Channel 859 or via their web streams.
The programming sticks to a 75% music and 25% talk ratio. They broadcast mainly in English, isiZulu, and Tsotsitaal.
Around 600,000 to 700,000 weekly listeners in Gauteng tune in specifically for music discovery. The station has a track record of breaking South African street culture first. They backed Kwaito, Gqom, and Amapiano early on.
The daily schedule is fast-paced. Top daytime slots include The Way Up, The Lunch League, and Home Run. By law, local tracks make up at least 50% of the airtime. The current playlist heavily mixes Amapiano, Hip-Hop, and R&B.
